Is Cricket our National Sport???
Hello everyone!!
How are you all!! I hope you all are doing well.
I know right now all of you are eager to know about this. Alright, hold your horses I will tell you everything in this post, all you have to do is just read it completely and patiently.
It is also true that we all have heard since our childhood that hockey is our national game. India may have won eight Olympic gold medals in hockey, numerous World Cups in kabaddi, and Numero Uno (number one) in cricket but the nation does not have a game or sport that it can call it's own.

The government of India has assigned various elements as symbols that define the nation's identity, heritage, and legacy. For instance, the tiger is the national animal of India, the peacock is the national bird and the lotus is the national flower. All this is common and general knowledge and most of us can easily relate to it.
Similarly, when asked about India's national sport, the most apparent answer will be hockey, given the remarkable success and honor the sport has brought to India.
But as a matter of fact, India does not have a national game or national sports.
Why India does not have a national sport??
In 2020, a school teacher from Dhule district in the state of Maharashtra filed a Right to Information (RTI) query with the government, seeking to know when hockey was declared India's national game.
The ministry of youth affairs and sports respond and said that "The government has not announced any sport or any game as the national game of the country, as the motive of the government is to encourage or promote all sports domains."
Nevertheless, following India's remarkable presentation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, calls for declaring hockey the national game has been rising louder.
A lawyer even filed public interest litigation (PIL), advising the Supreme Court to issue directions to the Indian government to make hockey the national sport and help return to its former glory. The petition was, however, refused by the apex court. And until the government officially designates the title to hockey or any other sport, India does not have a national game.
